About Ito Hirobumi:

He was a samurai of Chõsu dynasty born in October 16, 1909. He was a student of Yoshida Shõin at the Shõka Sonjuku and later joined the Sonnõ Jõi movement, which is a group that supports emperor and expel the people so called "Barbarians". However, in 1983 after becoming the Chõshu five and getting opportunity to study in Great Britain, he feels the necessity of Japan's modernization. In 1987, after Õkubo's assassination, he becomes the Home Minister and holds the central power of the Meiji government. In November 1905, after the Russian - Japanese war, Itõ becomes the Resident General of Korea. He was killed by An Jung-geun, a Korean independence activist, at the Harbin Railway Station on October 26, 1909.

Achievements:

• Although some Koreans reject it because of lack of proof, he tried to compromise with Korea in peaceful way, trying to make Korea to westernize as Japan did

• In 1887, after studying Western Currency system in 1880, he develops the tax system for Japan.

• In 1885, he negotiated the Convention of Tientsin with Lio Hongzhang to normalize the Japan's relationship with Qing Dynasty China.

• December 22, 1885, he becomes the first prime minister of Japan

• Received an honorary doctorate from Yale University

• First Resident-General of Korea
